Before you go

• The county's park page lists parking with no fee attached, and it has been free. A $10/$20 weekend figure circulates online — we can't confirm it's in effect, so check the week you go.
• Not really an ocean beach: a buoyed inlet lagoon that stays shallow and calm, usually with a sandbar kids can stand on. Flat here when the surf is up everywhere else.
• Guarded seven days a week during summer school recess, then weekends only in the school year — whenever a condition flag is flying.
• The lagoon is enclosed and doesn't flush well, so bacteria advisories post here more often than at the open beaches. Free current results at floridahealthybeaches.com.
• Stay inside the buoys — the inlet channel alongside has a swift current and steady boat traffic.
• Grills, picnic areas, one reservable group pavilion, restrooms, outdoor showers, a playground, a non-motorized boat ramp, and a beach wheelchair with an ADA mat.
• The lot is small and fills early on weekends and holidays; open sunrise to sunset.
