The River Center

Jupiter

Compiled & edited by Kyle Romero

A hands-on riverfront nature center in Burt Reynolds Park — aquariums, a touch tank, and weekly kids' programs.

The River Center is the Loxahatchee River District's education center inside Burt Reynolds Park, and it's Jupiter's easiest indoor win with young kids. More than 6,000 gallons of fresh- and saltwater aquariums trace the Loxahatchee from cypress swamp to seagrass estuary to the reefs outside Jupiter Inlet — the famous sandbar is literally part of the exhibit sequence — and a touch tank lets kids meet the critters up close. The center itself says to plan on 30 minutes to an hour, and that's about right. This is a stop, not a whole afternoon.

Story time on Thursday mornings is free, and the calendar stays busy the rest of the week — camps, homeschool workshops, fishing clinics, kayak tours, and a monthly lecture series. Because it sits inside Burt Reynolds Park, it pairs naturally with the playground, a picnic shelter, or a paddle from the park's launch.

  • Hours shift with the season: Tuesday–Wednesday 12–4pm and Thursday–Saturday 9am–4pm September through May; Tuesday–Saturday 9am–4pm June through August. Closed Sunday and Monday.
  • The center doesn't post an admission price — visitors report free or donation-based entry, so bring a few dollars and call (561) 743-7123 to confirm before you go.
  • Story time for ages 0–5 runs Thursdays 9:30–10am — free, with short books, songs, and an animal encounter.
  • Also on the calendar: homeschool workshops, summer camp, fishing clinics, and a lecture series most months.
  • It sits inside Burt Reynolds Park, so pair it with the playground, a picnic shelter, or a paddle from the park's kayak launch.
